LAHORE, Dec 8: Several religious organizations, which are running seminaries, have vowed to resist the government’s move to register these religious schools in the country.
A meeting of these organizations held at Jamia Naeemia here on Monday warned the government of a mass contact drive, if it continued its registration campaign. It also warned that the institutes, which would get themselves registered with the Madressah Education Board or accept the US financial assistance, would be expelled from the Wifaqul Madaris.
The participants reminded the government that by re-launching the registration drive it had bypassed the nine-member committee it had formed for solving the issue. The meeting also noted with regret that Federal Education Minister Zobaida Jalal had backed out of her promise of convening a meeting of the committee within a month. Those who attended the meeting included Saleemullah Khan, Hanif Jallundhary, Dr Sarfraz Naeemi, Mian Naeemur Rahman, Riaz Najfi and Zahidur Rashidi.
