Book launching ceremony held

By A Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Dec 8: The Asian Study Group on Monday launched a book, “Prisoner on a bus”, (Travels Through Pakistan), written by renowned travelogue writer Salman Rashid.

The book-launching ceremony included a pictorial presentation by the author, who shared his experiences and adventures during his journey through the arid and rocky planes while heading towards the Khirthar Mountains. The Khirthar range lies between the Sindh and Balochistan provinces.

“Prisoner on a bus”, also contains a collection of newspaper articles Mr Rasheed wrote between 1991 and 1998.

The author has brought tales from as far as wind-swept Broghal Pass in Chitral and the salt pans of Mashkel on the Iranian frontier, the red sandstone gullies of the Karonghar Hills outside Nagaprahar, Gwadar and Jiwani.

Mr Rashid is not just a travel writer who tells of his exploits in places that most Pakistanis do not know exist, his accounts are also a coherent and scholarly mix of geography, sociology and history with a taste for adventures.

“The book is all about my adventures in the Khirthar Mountains when we made a trip to that arid and deserted region of Pakistan. It’s a place where people will not imagine going. The book will shake you up because of exciting adventures and other things about the Khirthar Mountains, the inhabitants and the entire region itself,” the author said.
