Hearing of Naqvi’s bail plea put off

By Our Reporter

RAWALPINDI, Dec 8: The special anti-terrorism court No 1 here on Monday adjourned till December 13 the hearing of bail application of the outlawed Tehrik-i-Islami Pakistan chief Allama Sajid Ali Naqvi in the Maulana Azam Tariq murder case.

Judge Manzoor Ahmed Mirza also directed the prosecution to submit the challan against the accused till the completion of his judicial remand on December 13.

The court was to decide the bail plea on Monday. However, the hearing was adjourned after the judge accepted another plea of Mr Naqvi’s counsel, Zulfiqar Ali Naqvi.

The counsel contended that according to section 173 of the criminal procedure code (CrPC), the prosecution was bound to produce the challan, complete or incomplete, within 14 days from the date the accused was sent on judicial remand. The prosecution told the court that as two of the co-accused — Amanullah Sial and Sabtain Kazmi — were still at large, submitting of an earlier challan against Mr Naqvi had been delayed.
