Case against 15 for triple murder

Published December 7, 2003

GUJRAT, Dec 6: The Lalamusa city police late on Friday night registered a case against 15 men, including son of a former district Naib Nazim of PML-Q, on the charge of killing three members of a family.

Waqar Haider Shah, who is son of former district Naib Nazim Syed Noorul Hassan Shah and nephew of former MNA Syed Manzoor Shah and union council Nazim Madad Ali Shah, has been named as the principal accused in the FIR No 394.

Complainant Chaudhry Yasir Dhola, the only survived son of Munawar Husain, alleged in the FIR that his father and brothers — Ghulam Hur and Qasim — and cousins Imran and Tasawar were standing outside American Bakers while he went inside the bakery to buy some sweet for Qasim, who was about to fly to the UK in the evening.

As he reached the door of the bakery after buying the sweet, he said he saw Waqar Shah, Amir Abbas Shah alias Meeray Shah, Naeem Shah, Ashfaq alias Shaqi of Gandhara, Amir Lohar, Mukhtar Ahmad, Mustansar, Rauf and Zafar alias Zafri, along with six unidentified outlaws.

He said Waqar loudly asked Qasim that he had misbehaved with his father Noor Shah, and they had come there to teach him a lesson. They also tried to kidnap Qasim, he said, adding that when his father and brother Ghulam Hur tried to rescue Qasim, Waqar asked his accomplices to kill them all. The next moment they opened fire on the members of his family, killing them instantly. One of their accomplices, Mukhtar, also suffered bullet wounds and later died.

The FIR revealed that the complainant and his two cousins were the eye-witnesses.

Describing the motive behind the killings, the complainant said he had lodged a dacoity case No 258 (against unidentified men) under section 394 of PPC with the Lalamusa Saddar police station on Aug 11, 2003.

However, the Shah family got a scent of his move against them after which Qasim and Noor Shah exchanged harsh words. To take revenge, the suspect and his accomplices had murdered his father and two brothers, the FIR lodged under sections 302, 148 and 149 of PPC concluded.

DSP (headquarters) Mahmoodul Hassan Qureshi told Dawn that they had arrested a nominated accused, Ashfaq alias Shaqi, while several raiding teams had been constituted for the arrest of the remaining accused. Meanwhile, the funeral prayers of the three slain were held at Dhola village. People from all walks of life attended their funeral procession.
