Seven killed in held Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Dec 5: Five militants and two civilians were killed in occupied Kashmir, police said on Friday.

Four militants were killed in two gunbattles sparked by Indian troop raids on militant hideouts in Kupwara on Thursday night.

In the same district unidentified men shot dead a civilian, Abdullah Sheikh, on Friday morning. “The immediate motive behind his killing was not known,” a police spokesman said.

Indian troops shot dead one more militant near Kulgam, police said, while unknown men gunned down another civilian in Budgam district.

The killings come as Pakistan and India observe a ceasefire over the Line of Control.

At least 64 people — 38 militants, 14 Indian soldiers and 12 civilians — have died since the truce went into effect on Nov 26.—AFP
