DSP bows out of jail case investigation: ATC summons IGP

By Our Correspondent

GUJRANWALA, Dec 5: The investigation team of the Sialkot jail incident once again failed to submit chargesheet with the Anti-Terrorism Court No 1 on Friday, claiming that the IGP has taken back the report following expression of no confidence on it by the complainant.

Meanwhile, a member of the team, DSP Muhammad Younis Butt, expressed his inability to continue with his assignment.

The investigation team in-charge, Kasur DPO Ghulam Muhammad Kalyar, told the court that the IGP had withdrawn the report (prepared by them) on the reaction of the complainant.

However, judge Iftikhar Hussain Shah took serious notice of further delay in submission of the chargesheet and issued show-cause notice to IGP Syed Masood Shah for Dec 6 (today).

The court ordered that the chargesheet should be presented before it on the next date of hearing.

Earlier, additional judge Muhammad Yousaf, the complainant, said he had not expressed dissatisfaction over the investigation report.

HEARING: The ATC No 2 continued hearing the case of PPP city president Chaudhry Khalid Humayun’s murder, here on Friday.

The hearing was held at the district jail because of security reasons. The counsel for the accused could not attend the proceedings of the case, which was adjourned till Dec 10.

ILLEGAL CUSTODY: A court bailiff on Friday recovered a man from the illegal detention of the Saddar police station and produced him in court.

A police team allegedly picked up Muhammad Irshad, a resident of Chand da Qila, from his house and detained him in lock-up without registering any case against him.

His wife Perveen Bibi approached the sessions judge and pleaded that her husband had been kept in lock-up illegally by police. The court appointed a bailiff, who raided the police station and recovered the man.

UPLIFT SCHEMES: The district development committee expressed dissatisfaction over the pace of work on development schemes and urged to complete them within the stipulated period.

The meeting, presided over by DCO Fazeel Asghar, also gave approval for 19 uplift schemes of women councillors. All senior officers of the district government were also present on the occasion.
