BADIN, Dec 5: The Fauji Sugar Mill, Khoski, stopped sugarcane crushing on Friday after its machinery developed a fault.

The boilers’ pipes of the mill suddenly exploded, resulting in heavy losses to the mill.

According to a mill official, the cause of the explosion was a technical fault in the heating system as a result, three boilers exploded.

He confirmed that the mill had stopped the crushing till the rectification of the fault and said that it would remain closed for five days as technicians were being called from Karachi.

Sugarcane growers of the area believe that the fault is the result of the recruitment of new employees instead of old ones at the mill.

Talha Khan Bhurgari and other landlords said that they had also temporarily stopped harvesting sugarcane.

WATER SHORTAGE: The farmers and social workers took out a procession in Nindo Shaher on Thursday against Sida, accusing it of creating an artificial water shortage in lower Sindh.

A large number of protesters marched on town roads and staged a sit-in on Khoski-Nindo road for over two hours.

Talking to the protesters, Allah Bux Khaskheli, Mir Mohammad Mallah and Ali Asghar Shah accused the Sindh Irrigation and Drainage Authority officials of destroying the land of Badin and Thatta districts under a conspiracy.

They alleged that Sida had adopted a disdainful attitude towards the farmers of the calamity-hit area as it was not paying attention to their problems.

They demanded that the authority should be dissolved.
