KARACHI: KU exam department violates rules

KARACHI, Dec 5: The examination department officials of the University of Karachi allowed 21 foreign students of the Dow Medical College, Sindh Medical College

and Jinnah Medical College to appear in the examination without having enrolment

documents attached to their forms.

A list of 21 foreign students, who appeared in MBSS, Part-A, annual examinations-2003, in January-February 2003, indicates that enrolment documents and examination forms of these students were “not found in record” of the varsity.

According to the varsity code, no student of the varsity or any of its affiliated colleges, can appear in the examination without getting enrolled at the KU Enrolment Section, whereas if a student does get himself enrolled at the varsity within three months, his or her admissions stand cancelled automatically.

Admissions of some 53 students studying at the SMC and DMC were cancelled after it was found that they managed to get themselves enrolled at KU enrolment section by producing fake documents.

However, as per prescribed rules and regulations, the university itself cannot allow any students to appear in the examination or even issue admit cards to those students who fail to produce enrolment documents or examination forms attested from their concerned educational institutions.

An official of KU MBBS examination department disclosed that enrolment numbers of some eight foreign students of DMC, having seat nos, 1513, 1524, 1540, 1566, 1567, 1643, 1697 and 1785 were “not found in record.” Examination forms of two of them were stamped “Provisional,” while remaining were not stamped.

Similarly, enrolment numbers and even examination forms of six DMC students, having seat nos, 1509, 1512, 1585, 1602, 1625 and 1780 were also missing in the record.

In addition to that, the enrolment numbers of another six students of SMC, having seat numbers, 1201, 1216, 1224, 1225, 1226 and 1234 were missing from their examination forms, while enrolment number and examination forms of a student of Jinnah Medical College (JMC) was also “not found in record” of KU examination department, he added.

The official, who recently assumed charge of KU MBBS section, expressed astonishment over issuance of admit cards to such students and allowing them to appear in the first year examination after unearthing of admission scandal last year, and apprehended that these students were also studying at these medical colleges “illegally.”—PPI
