By Our Correspondent

DHAKA, Dec 5: Political rivals slaughtered on Thursday night five members of an outlawed party in a village in the bordering district of Jhenaidah, some 250 kms from here.

Police identified four of the victims as Nuru Kana, 32, Shariful Islam Shariful, 30, Shahid Khan, 32 and Newaz Shah, 45.

The SP Police of Jhenaidah told local reporters the killings were the result of a dispute over the sharing of booty extorted from construction works going on at the local Islamic University.

CHITTAGONG HILL TRACTS: Two political killings occurred in the Chittagong Hill Tracts region.

Priyajoyti Chakma, a self-styled captain of the Shanti Bahini, was gunned down on Thursday midnight, allegedly by a group of armed people loyal to the United Peoples’ Democratic Front.
