KARACHI, Dec 4: Former Olympian Hanif Khan on Thursday blasted the organizing committee of the hockey series against Malaysia for including him as a member without his consent.
“I have nothing to do with the organizing committee of the series and I have not been asked to become its member. People who included my name in the list without my consent are highly irresponsible and I protest on that,” former Pakistan captain said.
Sindh Hockey Association (SHA) Zafar Iqbal heads the organizing committee released by the association.
Hanif said it would be like becoming a joke to work as a member of an organizing committee since the position did not suit his stature.
“Just think of it. How can I be a member of an organizing committee while I had served as technical director of the national championship,” he added.
Meanwhile, Pakistan seniors and juniors start preparations for the triangular hockey series involving Malaysia with separate training camps from Friday.
Although the series, which rolls off from Dec 9, is scheduled to be played at Hockey Club of Pakistan (HCP), the senior and junior players will not be able to train at the same venue since the laying of the new surface is still in progress.
As an alternative, seniors will train at DHA Stadium, while juniors will have sessions at UBL Sports Complex before having a chance to play at the new HCP pitch which is not expected to be laid earlier than Dec 7.
