Dist council imposes various taxes

Published December 5, 2003

SARGODHA, Dec 4: The district council decided on Thursday that it would charge a number of taxes under the Punjab Local Government Ordinance 2001 on the recommendations of the finance and planning department.

A sum of Rs50 for each worker will be charged from factories having 10 or more employees while all the private colleges and schools, and computer colleges will pay tax on their collective income for charging more than Rs50 monthly fee from a student. The private hospitals will have to pay taxes from Rs15,000 to Rs25,000 in different categories while private clinics will pay Rs500 annually.

The licence fee of various factories is likely to be increased according to these proposals: the ice-cream factory and rubber factory will pay Rs1,500 each annually, timber and exclusive material manufacturers Rs2,000 each and petrol and oil sellers Rs2,000 each.

It has been proposed that the sugar refining units will pay Rs50,000, beverage, cigarettes and ghee agencies Rs10,000 each and marble cutting and polishing factories will be charged Rs25,000 for each unit annually.

The tax for cement, home pipes, girders and roof materials has been proposed Rs3,000 each a year, power sheller, steam treatment, petrol pumps and CNG stations (Rs5,000 each), diesel agency (Rs500) and rice sellers (Rs200). Besides, the vehicles will be charged toll on various roads.

Meanwhile, the private schools have resented the proposal to impose taxes. The managements of various schools have decided that they will stage a sit-in outside the district council hall as a protest.

At the meeting, the Regional Transport Authority secretary has asked the owners of illegal wagon stands to shift to the approved general bus stand or get these approved by the authorities concerned, otherwise, strict action would be taken against them.

Tehsil Nazim Dr Liaquat Ali Khan said illegally-built stands would be demolished.

He said the Sargodha Cantonment Board had been developed into a new-look area with renovation work, especially repairs of its fountains.
