Flower show gets cold response

PESHAWAR, Dec 4: The 10-day chrysanthemum exhibition at the Islamia College received a cold response from the people on its first day on Thursday.

The Peshawar University Vice-Chancellor Zulfiqar Hussain Gillani inaugurated the exhibition that is held in the college lawns annually since 1985.

The reason for the low number of visitors was that the college had not arranged any competition and another chrysanthemum exhibition  and competition was taking place at the Sher Khan Stadium.

There were 64 types of blooming chrysanthemum on display.

Around 30 gardeners are involved in growing and sequencing the flowers at the venue. “Last year, all the gardeners were given uniform and sweaters and this year the authorities have promised to reward us in cash,” a gardener said.
