ISLAMABAD, Dec 4: Attorney-General Makhdoom Ali Khan on Thursday informed the Supreme Court that summary for establishing a court of appeal for the Northern Areas had been approved, and the court would be functional very soon.

He was arguing before an apex court bench, comprising Chief Justice Sheikh Riaz Ahmed, Justice Qazi Muhammad Farooq and Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar, in a petition filed by Pervez Iqbal who was convicted by the accountability court Gilgit for corruption.

The attorney-general told the Supreme Court that all the quarters concerned had been informed while the summary approved by the Ministry of Law, Justice and Human Rights had also been sent to all the departments concerned.

But he asked the court for another couple of days adjournment as the secretary Northern Areas affairs was abroad on a tour and he would return by Dec 5. The court fixed Dec 10 for next hearing.—APP
