KARACHI, Dec 3: A high-level meeting held here on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Ali Mohammad Mahar was informed that the District Public Safety Commission had already been set up in 12 districts of the province while the process of setting up the institution in the rest of the districts was expected to be completed within the next 10 days.
The meeting was told that formation of a police complaint authority was also in the process and the names of its members would soon be made public.
Mr Mahar directed the participants to expedite the process of establishing public safety commissions at provincial and lower level. He said that these institutions would help improve the police performance.
He warned that atrocities against poor people on the part of police would not be tolerated.
Chief Secretary Dr Mutawakkil Qazi, Additional Chief Secretary Syed Anwar Haider and IGP Syed Kamal Shah were among those who attended the meeting.—PPI
