Star Of The Day should make amends today
KARACHI, Dec 2: The four-year-old bay colt Star Of The Day, after his disappointing run two weeks ago, should make amends when the Winter Gymkhana Race meeting gets under way at the Karachi Racecourse on Wednesday.
Participating in the last event on the afternoon’s programme, Star Of The Day although penalised to carry 9-4 on his back, is fancied to pick up the spoils from Thousand Up, Yaqoob Choice and the speedy Neelam Taab.
Only six races have been carded all going over the sprinting distance of five furlongs. The first race begins at 12-30 p.m.
In the opener with only 10 runners in the field, Syed Ali Gohar Shah’s chestnut colt Bang Man although carrying the top weight, should make it two winners in a row, chased all the way past the winning post by Winning Streak and Jango.
Lex Luger, a candidate from Lahore, but who has also run on this track in the past, looks a good thing to deliver the goods for owner M. Tariq and trainer Moheyuddin in the second race with a capable jockey astride.
The bay horse should be challenged by Little Sunny and Ghori, with Prism Of Life, Much Better and Royal Promise, joining the fray.
In the following event, Sajan Black after finishing third behind Silver City and Law Of Nature, should present owner Humayun Mirza this time with a winner, with Fizza and Law Of Nature battling it out for the second berth.
Silver City seems to be on course for another triumph in the fourth race, but will be challenged throughout the five furlong journey by Bull Dancer, Mera Jugnoo with Edward Chou’s dark bay filly Trust Me, providing the element of surprise.
The chestnut colt Sarazan after an impressive run only last week, should win the fifth race, although many racing fans may prefer Your Opinion to steal the show again.
Nawab sprinting in from behind could grab the third spot from Ring Master once again.
