MIRPURKHAS, Dec 2: The rain-affected people of Mirpurkhas district are still waiting to be provided relief as the revenue department, Mirpurkhas, has still not been able to complete its survey regarding the damages even after four months.
The Sindh government has yet to release its promised grant of Rs5 million to the rain-affected people.
The Sindh Minister for Culture and Tourism, Shabbir Ahmed Kaim Khani, who was the chairman, District Relief Committee, Mirpurkhas, had promised that he would approach the government to get Rs2.5 million in the first phase for distribution among the people. However, he has yet to fulfil his promise.
The people of the rural areas have lost hope of getting any relief from the government.
The president, Sindh Agriculture Growers Development Association, Rais Ahmed Khan, and the vice president, Sindh Abadgar Board, Haji Abdul Ghafoor Mahar, said that due to the delay in releasing grant the people were disappointed in the government, and added that they were suffering.
They said that Tharparkar and Badin districts had received the grant while the people of Mirpurkhas were suffering as the elected representatives were not approaching the Sindh government regarding it.
They demanded that the president, the Sindh chief minister and the Sindh governor take serious notice regarding it and have the funds released as soon as possible.
ZAKAT: Around Rs8.8 million of Zakat funds was distributed among 7,728 deserving people by 161 Zakat committees.
The district Zakat officer, Mirpurkhas, Farman Ali Tanwri, said this while talking to newsmen on Tuesday.
He said that at the time of distribution of Zakat in four Talukas of Tharparkar district, the DCO, Tharparkar, A. Warayo Mallah, and the in charge, district army supporting team, Major Aftab, were also present.
BASIC FACILITIES: The district coordination officer, Mirpurkhas, Dr Mohammad Siddique Memon, has said that Rs446.70 million were being spent in the Annual Development Programme, Drought Emergency Relief Assistance, and the Khushhal Pakistan Programme to enable the people of rural and urban areas to get the benefit of basic facilities.
