BADIN, Dec 2: The local growers have complained about water shortage at the tail-ends of Raj Wah, Noor Wah, Ganj Bahar, Soomarki and other water channels and demanded judicious distribution of water.
Talking to journalists here on Tuesday, Ismail Chandio, Ibrahim Shah, Vikio and others said that tail-end growers were facing water shortage for long, causing destruction of their standing crops.
They claimed that around 80,000 acres of land could not be cultivated this season in the district due to water shortage at tail-ends of the channels.
As a result, the farmers said, they could not even meet food requirements of their families.
Accusing the irrigation officials of creating artificial water shortage, they regretted that the government had failed to punish water thieves and corrupt irrigation officials despite repeated claims.
The growers demanded that water supply should be immediately restored to the tail-ends of the above water channels.
WORKSHOP: A one-day workshop on “Lactation Management and Promotion of Breast Feeding” was held at the nursing school here on Tuesday.
The participants discussed the problems of lactating mothers and their solutions.
TRANSFER: The deputy director of Extended Polio Immunization programme, Badin, Dr Roshan Bhatti, was transferred on Tuesday and replaced by Dr Naeem Qureshi.
LAW AND ORDER: A meeting of the Union Council Tando Ghulam Ali, held the other day, urged the District Police Officer to take notice of the deteriorating law and order situation in the area and demanded that it be improved soon.
The members unanimously passed a resolution demanding that the posting and transfer of the SHO, Tando Ghulam Ali, should be made on the recommendations of the council.
It was decided that no transfer orders of the SHO should be directly affected till the council concerned recommended it.
