KU all set to hold degree exams

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Dec 2: The University of Karachi has planned to conduct degree class annual examinations for college students, which will commence during the month at 113 centres, to be set up at varsity departments, as well as at various city colleges, it was learnt officially.

An official of KU examination department said that about 78,000 regular and external candidates had been registered for the BA, BCom and BSC, Part-I and II, annual examinations, planned to be held in morning and afternoon sessions.

A maximum of 35,869 candidates are likely to appear in BA (Regular and Private) examinations, while another about 33,100 would take the BCom (Regular and Private) examinations. About 9,100 students would appear in BSc examinations.

The BCom (New Course) examinations for regular and private students are scheduled to begin on Dec 6 in the afternoon shift, while BA (Regular and Private) examinations will commence on Dec 13 in the morning shift. BSc examinations would start from Dec 20 in the afternoon shift.

The number of female candidates is larger than the male candidates likely to appear in examinations. About 39,300 female and 38,800 male candidates had been registered for the BA, BCom and BSc examinations, while another 6,000 candidates had been registered for BCom (Old course) examinations, commencing on Dec 27, the official added.

The Controller of Examinations, Syed Inkisarul Haq, told Dawn that 61 centres had been planned for male students on the campus, while 52 centres for female students would be made functional at city girls colleges.

He said that the university had already informed the law enforcing agencies about the conduct of examinations on the campus and city colleges, urging them to ensure proper security arrangements at the centres on the days of examinations.

He said that colleges and varsity staff would be assigned the invigilation task at the examination centres, adding that all examinations would be held in classrooms and covered places.

In addition to invigilation staff, a vigilance team had also been planned to ensure a foolproof and smooth conduct of examinations. Two members of the vigilance team, comprising university and college teachers, would be posted at every examination centre, he added.

Meanwhile, some faculty members of the varsity, who will act as invigilators during the examinations to be held at varsity campus, criticize the varsity’s examination department for its alleged failure to prepare a detailed schedule of all degree examinations, claiming that centres for male candidates are yet to be decided, although prescribed dates are fast approaching, adds PPI.

They feared that faulty arrangements made by the department would result in confusion on the examination days as there was no mentioning of venues for BCom and BA exams in the schedule announced by the department.
