Four die in clash over property

KARACHI, Dec 2: Four persons, including two women, died and several others were injured in Rehri goth on Tuesday night when a dispute over a piece of land turned violent.

Members of the same family, the dead were identified as: Karima, 18, Zarina, 30, Karim Bux, 60 and Nazeer Ahmed, 12.

A reletive of the deceased, Master Hanif, who was present at the JPMC told Dawn that some 20 to 25 persons attacked his house in Siddiq Khaskheli goth with firearms and different weapons resulting in the death of his four relatives.

Witnesses said that firearms, batons and sharp-edged weapons were freely used in the clash, resulting in deaths and injuries. They said that the two girls died while trying to save their father, Mohammad Husain, who escaped with minor injuries.

Police said that it was basically a clash between two groups of the area over a plot in Siddiq Khaskheli goth located in Rehri.

Other relatives, who brought the dead and injured to the JPMC, said that dispute started among the cousins of the same Khaskheli family when Mohammad Husain sold a plot for the wedding of his daughter. The sale was opposed by Anwer, a cousin of the Mohammad Husain, they added.

On Tuesday, people said that a group led by Anwer attacked the house of Mohammad Husain and killed his four members of his family.

People said that school uniforms donated by the Fisheries Department for the New Khaskheli School was also a contributory factor to the clash, as they were not distributed justly, they added.

The area SHO confirmed that it was dispute among members of the same clan over a plot. Police, on Tuesday night, claimed to have arrested some people in this connection.

However, the TPO Landhi was not available for his version of the incident and his cell was not responding despite repeated calls.

DIES: With the death of another girl on Tuesday, the death toll of the last Friday’s Suzuki Hi-roof fire incident reached four.

Two children, Jameela, 4 and Guddu, 2, had died on the spot while the third girl Sumaira, 5, had succumbed to her wounds on Monday evening at the National Institute of Child Health. On Tuesday, the fourth victim, Nadia, 5, died during treatment at the NICH, Edhi sources said.

Nine passengers had suffered burn wounds when a Suzuki Hi- roof (CJ-0137) caught fire in Shershah on Nov 28.

However, the accurate cause of the incident is still unknown, but, officials of the fire department were of the opinion that a short circuiting of wires might have caused the fire.

CRUSHED: Two unknown persons died after being crushed beneath a locomotive near Drig Road Railway Station on Tuesday.

Police said that the two men were trying to cross the railway tracks when they got crushed beneath the locomotive.

ARRESTED: The field security wing of the Rangers claimed to have arrested an activist of a banned sectarian militant outfit from Malir.

According to a statement issued by the Pakistan Rangers on Tuesday, the field security wing acting on a tip off arrested Kashif Abbas from Khokhrapar in Malir.

The suspect is wanted in cases of arson, rioting and firing on van of Jamia Farooqia, it added.
