LAHORE, Nov 30: Pakistan’s Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi completed a double feat by winning the ITF Futures Tennis singles title, according to a message received on Sunday.
Aisam defeated Harsh Mankad of India 7-6 (4), 6-4, in New Delhi to win the singles title. It was his second singles title in a row.
Aisam is in superb form as this was his 15th consecutive win in a singles event.
Mankad, a Davis Cup player of India and No.1 seed of this championship was considered favourite for this title match.
Aisam had taken a 3-1 lead but Mankad restored parity at 4-4. Aisam again took 5-4 lead but again was caught by the Indian 6-6 to play the tie-breaker.
In the second set Mankad made a good start and gained 3-1 lead but was effectively dealt with and his lead was neutralised at 4- 4.
From thereon Aisam did not drop any game and won the final.
Earlier, Aisam pairing with Mankad won the doubles title beating Mustafa Ghouse and Vishal Uppal of India in the final 3- 6, 6-1, 6-2.
Aisam’s next ITF competition is scheduled to be held in Mumbai, India.
