Park’s name sparks row between minister, Nazim

TOBA TEK SINGH, Nov 30: A change of name of a proposed park by the Punjab forest minister has deepened his differences with the district Nazim, who had originally named the park related to his industrial group.

It is learnt that District Nazim Chaudhry Muhammad Ashfaq had named the recreational spot as the Chenab Park (relating to the Chenab Group of Industries.

Punjab Forest Minister Dr Ashfaqur Rahman on Sunday announced that he had renamed the park as the Fatima Jinnah Park, which would be built on 50-acre tract of the forest department on the Toba-Jhang Road. The project would require Rs250 million for its completion.

Speaking at the Eid Milan party at Chak 150-GB, Jaggowali, Dr Ashfaq said after renaming the park his ministry had sent the summary to the provincial finance minister to obtain the sanctioned grant for the park. A zoo would also be established at the park.

The tehsil municipal administration was negotiating with the Pakistan Railways to get the possession of Teku Park as well, concluded the minister.

SUGAR MILLS: District Nazim Chaudhry Muhammad Ashfaq announced on Sunday that all the union council Nazims in Toba Tek Singh had been authorized to check the weigh-scales of sugar mills.

Speaking to a gathering of farmers at union council Nazim Mian Muhammad Nawaz’s residence at Mauza Akbar Sahu, he assured them that the sugar mills would not be allowed to exploit them by underweighing at the sugar cane purchase centres.

He claimed that the district government had repaired all the link roads so that the growers could conveniently carry their product to the mills.

TEACHERS’ POLLS: A teachers and lecturers’ convention elected on Sunday office-bearers of the Tanzeem-i-Asataza Pakistan under the supervision of a divisional election officer.

Prof Chaudhry Ghulam Murtaza of the Government College of Science, Faisalabad, supervised the elections.

Prof Ashraf Shakir of Toba Tek Singh was elected president, Faqir Muhammad Mansoor of Kamalia vice-president and Ghulam Mustafa Tabassum of Chak 720-GB secretary-general.
