KARACHI: Removal of garbage demanded

Published December 1, 2003

KARACHI, Nov 30: The burning of the garbage, removed from the nullah situated behind Frere Road newspaper market was causing suffocation and air pollution related diseases to the residents.

The affected include occupants of the City Government flats and other nearby residential apartments.

According to the residents, nullah was cleaned at the beginning of the holy month of Ramazan. The refuse was dumped alongside the wall of the nullah for removal.

Some miscreants set the garbage, comprising rubber and plastic items, on fire, causing injurious smoke, an official of CDGK, residing in the flats, complained.

According to the area people, the garbage was spilling again into the nullah, which might render the whole exercise futile.

They appealed to the authorities, including Saddar Town Nazim, to order removal of garbage for better environmental conditions.—APP
