JACOBABAD, Nov 29: Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali has said his government will not make false promises with the people like previous governments and he will do everything possible for the welfare of the people and the country.

He was addressing a public gathering after inaugurating a 66kv Ghandhkha grid station in the Jaferabad district, Balochistan, on Friday.

Mr Jamali said development schemes would be carried out in the country without any discrimination.

He said all the youths could not be provided with jobs but gave an assurance that recruitments would be made on the basis of merit. He claimed that previous governments had given jobs to the people after receiving commission from them.

The prime minister said problems of the people would be resolved at their doorstep.

He said growers had obtained good produce this year and they would get fair rates for their crops.

He said the federal government had also increased the price of wheat so that growers could benefit from it.

Mr Jamali said in the coming 10 years electricity would be provided to every village of the country.

He directed Wapda to appoint local people in the newly-constructed grid station as this was their basic right.

The prime minister said the government was running under the leadership of President Gen Pervez Musharraf and every programme for the welfare of the people was being planned.

Earlier, in his speech, Qesco chief Syed Tasdaq Hussain said 216 villages would be electrified up to Dec 31 and for this purpose, the federal government had released Rs176 million.

He said elected representatives had proposed 260 schemes of village electrification for which the Centre had released Rs148 million.

He said 13 new grid stations would be established up to 2008 and 31 grid stations would be upgraded in the province.

Earlier, Prime Minister Jamali held a meeting with Jamali tribe chief Yar Mohammad and discussed tribal problems of Usta Mohammad and Jaferabad with him.
