ISPR clarifies toy bomb casualties

ISLAMABAD, Nov 29: Casualties reported to the CMH, Muzaffarabad, attributed to a toy bomb explosion, resulted because of Indian artillery shelling on Nov 24, before the ceasefire came into effect.

Officials of the Inter-Services Public Relations directorate cited difficult terrain for the delay in evacuating the injured, saying: “The people injured by the toy bomb explosion were evacuated to the CMH, Muzaffarabad, after two days on Nov 26.”

Earlier, on Friday, DG ISPR, Maj Gen Shaukat Sultan, said that he would have to check the details of the toy bomb explosion. A six-year-old boy was killed after being critically injured in a toy bomb explosion in the Dudhanial sector on Nov 24. Seven others, including five women, were injured in the incident.

The injured are still being treated, ISPR officials said.

Referring to the threat of toy bombs still scattered in the area, an ISPR official said, “clearing operations are regularly undertaken to clear the area of toy bombs.”
