Musharraf to meet politicians

ISLAMABAD, Nov 29: President Gen Pervez Musharraf has decided to start consultations with politicians from the second week of December to bring to an end the deadlock between the government and the opposition.

Sources told PPI on Saturday that the president intended to meet prominent political figures belonging to the opposition and the ruling Pakistan Muslim League and its coalition partners.

They said top leadership of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, including Maulana Shah Ahmed Noorani, Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Qazi Hussain Ahmed, were among the politicians to be consulted by the president.

Other leaders who would meet the president include Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Rao Sikandar Iqbal, Aftab Ahmed Sherpao, Tahirul Qadri, Imran Khan, Hamid Nasir Chatha and Mehmood Khan Achakzai.

Sources said no leader of the PML (Nawaz) and the People’s Party Parliamentarians was being involved in the consultations.

They said the decision of President Musharraf was aimed at taking on board the opposition parties, particularly the MMA on the issues of the Legal Framework Order and his military post.—PPI
