Bungling in anti-polio Campaign detected

By Our Correspondent

SARGODHA, Nov 29: The district health department allegedly misappropriated millions of rupees by constituting more than 390 polio teams on paper but sending only a few in the field during the recent campaign for administration of polio drops to children, according to reliable sources.

A sum of Rs1,500 had been allocated for a team.

It was further learnt that around Rs15,000 had been provided for each basic health unit of the district to purchase medicines and equipment. The funds were only partially utilized.

An inquiry was conducted by Judicial Magistrate Sher Bahadur, who found out that millions had been embezzled by the health officials. He pointed out various irregularities in the department.
