KARACHI: Parts of city without water

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Nov 25: Various parts of the city either went dry or received scant supply on the eve of Eidul Fitr.

The hard-hit localities included Clifton’s Block 2, parts of Kharadar, Mehmoodabad, Akhtar Colony, Manzoor Colony, Orangi Town’s Urdu Chowk, Benazir Colony, Ghausia Baloch Colony, Ali Nagar, Aziz Nagar, Hyderabad Colony, parts of North Nazimabad’s Block L, North Karachi’s Sector 11-C/2 and 11-C/3, Gulshan-i-Iqbal’s blocks 13-D/1, 13-D/2 and 10, parts of PIB Colony, different blocks of Gulistan-i-Jauhar, parts of Lyari and Baghdadi.

Taking undue advantage of the persisting water shortage, private tankers on Tuesday did a roaring business charging between Rs450 and 600 per tanker in the water-starved localities.

A large number of water tankers drawing water from both private and the Rangers-manned hydrants were seen shuttling between the water source and shortage-hit localities.

Residents of different affected localities deplored that on the one hand they remained without water on Tuesday and, on the other, their complaints lodged with the officials concerned remained unheeded.

They criticized the KWSB for not restoring supply to their localities even on the eve of Eid.
