HYDERABAD: Computer fee refund begins in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD, Nov 24: District Nazim Dr Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman here on Monday distributed computer fee refund cheques among the students of four colleges.

He visited Zubaida Girls College, Government Boys College, Kali Mori, Nazareth Girls College and Shah Latif College, Latifabad for this purpose.

Speaking on the occasion, he said Hyderabad was the first district where the students were being refunded the computer fee.

He praised the role of the students’ organizations which had raised the issue by protesting against the recovery of computer fees.

Education EDO Manzoor Hussain Bhutto, district officer (colleges) Syed Ali Akbar Shah and other officers of the education department also spoke on the occasion.

ARTISTES: Awami Tehrik chief Rasool Bux Palijo has expressed concern over the denial of financial assistance to the deserving artistes of Sindh on Eidul Fitr.

In a statement faxed to Dawn here on Monday, he said that the head of the relevant committee, Akbar Leghari, should immediately release funds for the deserving artistes.

project launched: Adviser to Sindh chief minister for local government and Kutchi Abadis Waseem Akhtar has said that the government is determined to provide basic facilities to the people.

He was speaking at the ground breaking ceremony of Greater Hyderabad Sewerage Project, phase-I, in Latifabad here on Monday.

Mr Akhtar said that Hyderabad, the second biggest city of Sindh, had been neglected by successive governments.

He, however, assured that it would not be allowed to happen in future and added that development schemes in Hyderabad had already been initiated.

In his briefing, the director of the sewerage project, Abdul Malik Khatri, said that the project, initiated by the Sindh government with the assistance of the Asian Development Bank, would be completed in two years at a cost of Rs11.94 million.

He said 87,000 people would benefit from the project.

Later, the minister visited the Kohsar Extension Housing Scheme.

MNA Professor Khalid Wahab, MPA Aslam Pervez MPA, and some officials were present on the occasion.

ARREST: The Hyderabad region police arrested two Patharidars , five absconders and six criminals and recovered four pistols, two guns and 23 cartridges from their possession during the last 24 hours ending on Monday evening.

This was stated in a handout issued by the office of the regional police officer disabled people: DCO Mohammad Hussain Syed has said that disabled people can contribute towards the country’s development and it is the duty of society to provide modern education and training to them.

He was speaking at a function organized by a disabled persons’ organization here on Saturday.

He said the district government had chalked out a scheme to impart modern education to people with disabilities and train them in craftsmanship.

He urged philanthropists to perform their due role and help the district government to provide training and employment to disabled people.

EDO, community development, Mohammad Ibrahim Qureshi said the department for the rehabilitation of disabled people was already imparting modern education and training to 55 children and youths.
