KARACHI, Nov 24: The KESC management will arrange a public demonstration of ‘Meter Checking’ in various parts of the city under the aegis of City Nazim Naimatullah Khan immediately after Eid holidays.

This was announced by the KESC spokesman here on Monday. He said that arrangements for certifying the authenticity of the new meters by independent authorities were already underway by the KESC Management Director Brig Tariq Saddozai.

He said that invitations to witness the verification of KESC meters correctness were also being extended to the provincial government representatives, MNAs, MPAs and senior members of the local and foreign media.

The spokesman said that any person could check his own meter’s correctness by a very simple procedure. To check meters, the consumers could put off all the electrical use and connect a standard 1,000 watt florescent tube with the meter for one hour, the meter would show one-unit consumption, this would prove that the meter was correct. This was an authentic technical method of manual verification of the electric meter acceptable all over the world, he added.

Incidentally, the complaint about new meter is due to the fact that the old meters removed have slowed down either by tampering or due to other technical reasons, while the new meter have started showing the actual consumption, he added.

He said although the new meters were already tested and verified by an independent laboratory ‘High Voltage & Short Circuit Laboratory, Rawat, under the supervision of Dr Akbar.—PPI
