KARACHI: Six remanded on bhatta charges


KARACHI, Nov 24: Justice Shabbir Ahmed, administrative judge of anti-terrorism courts of Karachi division, on Monday remanded six accused of the banned outfit Khudamul Islam to the custody of Mehmoodabad and Gulshan-i-Iqbal police till Dec 1.

Earlier, the Gulshan-i-Iqbal police produced accused Farrukh Nafees, Suleman Khan and Noman Ali.

According to their remand papers, they were arrested on Nov 22 on charge of collecting illegal extortion (Bhatta) for Jihad.

The police also stated that Rs1,500 and receipts were recovered from the possession of the accused.

Mehmoodabad police produced three accused Iftekhar, Ashraf and Amir Raza, and an amount of Rs2,750 was allegedly recovered from their possession.

The police also confiscated a Suzuki van carrying a banner in favour of the banned Jaish-i-Mohammad. Humayun, Shakeel and Abdullah were shown as absconders in the case.—APP
