LAHORE, Nov 23: Three-year-old bay English filly, Pretty Pekan, ridden by jockey A. Aziz galloped to victory over 1200 metres in the feature event during the Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday.
When the race started, the joint-favourite Pretty Pekan alongwith stable companion, Muqaddar took the early lead and running un-challenged, maintained the supremacy and passed the winning post ahead of Muqaddar by two lengths.
Favourite Song Of Peace and Prime Panther completed the frame among eight starters. Owned by Malik Hamid Ali Noon, who proudly said after the race that he himself bought the filly in London early this year. Pretty Pekan, having a fine confirmation is trained by Haji Fazal Hadi.
She is the daughter of English sir and mother, Sri Pekan (Red Ransom) and Pretty Precedent.
Two-year-old thoroughbred bay filly, Trace Charm, won the Kaghan Plate, a term race for two-year-old colts and fillies run over the sprinting distance of 1000 metres in almost a start-to finish debut bid.
The filly from Trace Creek out-of-Beer Gal, Trace Charm owned by Lt. Col (retd:) Masood Pervaiz fought a duel with fancied Ceanu Reeves leading the field for a while and was soon caught up level by Ceanue Reeves as the two sprinted for the winning post, a few lengths away, Trace Charm was lucky to get the verdict of the photo-finish camera by just a short-head. She won despite jockey Khurrum Sheikh’s all efforts not to win right in front of the grand stand.
Only seven colts and fillies ran after the last minute withdrawal of Baker’ s Eye from this fourth race of the day.
The most exciting event of the afternoon was witnessed in the third, when Gold Rush ridden brilliantly by riding boy Qasim Shah beat Much Pleasure by a neck after a ding-dong tussle, for which Qasim Shah earned spontaneous applause from the race-goers. Madam Lorina and Imagine Iff completed the frame.
The victory of Gold Rush gave Qasim Shah a creditable double when he had earlier romped home on Qandhar in the opener.
In the same race the Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards came down hard on riding boy A. Imran astride fancied Royal Performance, for not allowing his mount to run on merit.
They withdrew his riding licence for good.
Throughout the race A. Imran was seen struggling to keep Royal Performance behind Qandhar making it sure the leader won the race safely.
Trainer I. Nawab excelled among the trainers when he sent out two winners in Amazing and Canopy in the Sixth and last race, respectively.
Both the winners are owned by Zaheer Aslam, who has a good array of fine pedigree horses.
