HYDERABAD, Nov 23: Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Central Labour Union president Abdul Latif Nizamani has criticized Wapda officials for terminating services of the employees under the Presidential Ordinance-2000.

Speaking at a meeting of office-bearers of the union’s Sindh chapter at the Labour Hall here on Sunday, he termed the ordinance a black law.

He said employees who had been issued with two show-cause notices during 20 years of their service were being sacked under the ordinance. He made it clear that the union would not tolerate the prevailing state of affairs.

Mr Nizamani also condemned the privatization of the Faisalabad Electric Supply Company and the Jamshoro Thermal Powerhouse.

He said in order to hide their inefficiency and corrupt practices, the Wapda officials wanted to privatize Fesco which was a profitable organization.

The meeting resolved to launch a protest movement throughout the country after Eid against the privatization of the company and the powerhouse and forced retirement and dismissal of employees.

The Sindh secretary of the union, Mohammad Iqbal Kaimkhani, called upon the Wapda authorities to stop the economic murder of the employees and hoped that they would not take any step which might jeopardize industrial peace.

He appealed to the president, prime minister and the federal minister for water and power to repeal the Presidential Ordinance and rescind the decision to privatize Fesco and the powerhouse.
