LAHORE, Nov 22: Bay mare, Song Of Peace, looks poised for second successive win when she contests the Khanewal Plate class IV handicap race, featuring a card of eight events during the Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday.

The mare from He Man out-of-Nice Lilly, Song Of Peace, has been promoted to class Iv by virtue of her effortless victory in the Mianwali Cup, a class V event run over 1400 metres on Sunday last.

However, the competition is much stiffer this time because of the presence of an imported English filly Pretty Pekan and locally bred colt Muqaddar, who relishes the race distance of 1200 metres.

The only negative point against the imported filly is that this is her debut at the Lahore Racecourse although she has been going for track work on it recently.

Pretty Pekan is the daughter of an English Sire Sri Pekan out-of-Pretty Precedent. Sri Pekan is the son of Red Ransom. According to Hyperion Promotions Limited ratings Sri Pekan has topped the list of sires of two-year-old by total prize-money won in Europe during 2001.

Sri Pekan’s progenies fared better than those of the sires like Ali Royal (Royal Academy), Eagle Eyed (Danzig) Dane Hill (Danzig), Key Of Luck (Chief’s Crown) and Barathea (Sadler’s Wells).

Sri Pekan sons and daughters Come See You, Cathy Pekan, Sri Rose, Xilografa, Caboto and Mister Pekan has won races in Hong Kong, Rome and Milan last year. May be Pretty Pekan was not upto their standard so her owners sold her.

The supporting and sixth event, the Khanewal Plate class IV division II to be run over identical distance has a dozen contestants.

Of them two are in good chance to win. They are: the bay colt Amazing (Fearless Leader-Crepescule) and  the chestnut filly Flame (Prince’s Leap-Passenger).

Both have won a race recently and are in racing fitness to strike any time. If nothing  goes wrong with Amazing, he should  return  home victorious.

The Kaghan Plate, a term race for two-year-old thoroughbred colts and fillies, to be run over the sprinting distance of 1000 metres, has eight runners barring last-minute  withdrawals.

Baker’s Eye, a bay filly from Baker’s Gate out-of-Jewel Eye, who was beaten by Prince Of Gujrat in her first outing on Nov 9, should make amends this time and win the race, the fourth in racing order. The first race will be held at 11.30 am.
