ISLAMABAD, Nov 21: President Gen Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Jamali on Friday expressed the hope that Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee would attend the forthcoming Saarc summit which would provide a chance to both the countries to resolve their differences.
They, however, said Pakistan would continue its “political, moral and diplomatic support of Kashmiris’ just struggle for the achievement of their right to self-determination.
The president and the prime minister met at the Prime Minister’s House after an Iftar-dinner hosted by the prime minister for the president, and discussed matters relating to various international and regional issues with special focus on the recent package of confidence-building measures offered by India, an official announcement said.
The president and the prime minister reiterated the country’s stand to continue its political, moral and diplomatic support for Kashmiris’ just struggle to achieve their right of self-determination.
Both the leaders paid rich tribute to the Kashmiris who made historic sacrifices for freedom. They also expressed the view that no amount of state terrorism and persecution could extinguish the fire of freedom burning in the hearts of Kashmiris.
The two leaders also expressed the resolve to eradicate the scourge of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.
The meeting was also attended by Foreign Minister Khurshid Kasuri, Azad Kashmir President Sardar Mohammad Anwar and Foreign Secretary Riaz Khokhar.
Earlier the Iftar-dinner hosted by the prime minister in the honour of president was attended by Punjab Governor Lt-Gen Khalid Maqbool, Balochistan Governor Owais Ghani, NWFP Governor Lt-Gen Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah and other high officials.
