PESHAWAR, Nov 21: An Afghan girl who escaped from Darul aman last month was granted bail by judicial magistrate Wajid Ali Khan on Thursday.

The court ordered that the girl, Muskan, be kept in prison till her relatives furnished two sureties of Rs500,000 each.

The girl, arrested in Lahore two days ago, was produced before the court by the Hasthnagri police after they brought her here on Thursday night.

Ms Muskan told the court that she had escaped from the darul aman run by  the All Pakistan Women’s Association, with another girl, Noreen, hailing  from Bannu district, by scaling the wall with the help of a ladder.

Talking to newsmen, the teenage girl refuted the claims of some non-governmental organizations and her family members that she had escaped with the assistance of the shelter’s administration.

Apwa announced that it would not provide shelter to any woman sent by a court or involved in a criminal case.

Keeping in view the threats to her life from her relatives, the court ordered the production of two sureties of Rs500,000 each.

The other girl, Noreen, was sent to the Edhi Welfare Home in Lahore as she was not willing to return to Peshawar.
