US donates military trucks to Kabul

By Zulfiqar Ali

PESHAWAR, Nov 19: A fleet of US-donated reconditioned military trucks is crossing over into Afghanistan via the Pakistan-Afghanistan border at Torkham.

The movement of hundreds of military trucks is being seen here by military analysts as aiming to further bolster the fledgling Afghan Army.

Sources said that around 560 vehicles had arrived at Port Qasim, Karachi, of which many had been sent to Afghanistan via the Torkham checkpoint.

Customs officials at Torkham said that some 420 military vehicles had crossed into Afghanistan during the last few days while 70 more trucks would leave the checkpoint on Thursday.

They said that 70 vehicles were still at Port Qasim, Karachi. Earlier the US government sent Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) to Afghanistan.

Three battalions of Afghan army, trained by the US military advisers, along with the allied forces, are in action in different parts of the country to combat Al Qaeda and Taliban fighters.
