RAWALPINDI, Nov 19: A court here on Wednesday handed down death sentence to two convicts and life imprisonment to the other for killing a man and committing robbery in Sarafa Bazaar.
Those, who were awarded capital punishment by the additional district and sessions judge, Sultan Ali Tahir, included Nasir Khan and Mohammad Sulaiman.
In the same case, the court also awarded life-term to Rabnawaz, and four-year rigorous imprisonment each to Mohammad Younas and Nadir Khan.
The court observed that all the five convicts would pay a fine of Rs100,000 each.
The prosecution had contended before the court that the convicts had killed Fazal Rehan, while committing robbery in Sarafa Bazaar.
Meanwhile, the additional district and sessions judge, Sanaullah Malik, awarded death sentence to Tariq Mehmood and life imprisonment to Saqib Mehmood, after they were found guilty in a murder case.
According to the prosecution, both the convicts had killed Safeer over a petty business dispute.
Both the accused would also pay Rs100,000 each, which would go as compensation to the bereaved family, the court observed.
The court also acquitted the co-accused, Mehboob Khan, Karam Dad and Pervez Akhtar, in the case after the prosecution failed to produce any evidence against them.
Meanwhile, the additional district and sessions judge, Chaudhry Imtiaz, awarded three and a half years RI each to three persons, Sher Ali, Pir Mohammad and Fayaz.
The court had found the convicts guilty of committing a robbery in a house in the jurisdiction of Airport police station. The court also imposed a fine of Rs20,000 each on the convicts.
