KARACHI: Pearl case hearing adjourned

Published November 20, 2003

KARACHI, Nov 19: The appeals moved by the convicts and the state for acquittals and enhancement of sentences in the US journalist Danial Pearle murder case were again adjourned on Wednesday due to the paucity of time and absence of one of the appellants’ counsel.

Meanwhile, Advocate K.M.A. Samdani filed an application on behalf of the wife of the main accused sentenced to death, Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh. Advocate Rai Bashir, who represents the accused, however, remained absent.

The case was listed for hearing before a division bench comprising Justices Wahid Bux Brohi and Rehmat Hussain Jaferi. But the court time was over before it could be taken up by the bench. Special prosecutors Raja Qureshi and Masooda Siraj were present for the state and Advocates Abdul Waheed Katpar and Khwaja Naveed Ahmed for the appellants.
