KARACHI: City govt to simplify procedure for water connection
KARACHI, Nov 19: The City District Government Karachi has decided to simplify procedure for granting water connections to industrial units, and the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board has been asked to take an immediate decision on all such applications.
The decision was taken at a meeting held under the chairmanship of city Nazim, Naimatullah Khan.
The Nazim said before discontinuing any illegal industrial connection, the concerned unit be asked to get the same regularised and pay dues/fee or else they will be imposed fine if found using illegal connection during a campaign to be launched.
On this occasion, UC Nazim Zahid Saeed informed the meeting that his UC was paying about Rs 20 million to the water board but still water was not available in certain areas.
It was decided that in order to have better water supply plan for the PECHS, the Kokan Pumping Station will be connected with the Club Pumping Station through a 10-inch dia pipeline and the work will be completed in two months.
The meeting considered a proposal regarding repair of Awami Pumping Station and planned to set up a new station after its servicing.
ONE-WINDOW FACILITY: In view of improved water supply position in the city, the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board announced on Wednesday that new connections to the residential and commercial consumers would be given under one-window operation.
KWSB MD Brig. Asif Ghazali has directed the officials of finance and tax departments to evolve an easy procedure for sanctioning the connection.
According to a KW&SB press release, since the water supply position from Hub has improved a lot, the residential and commercial customers who could not be given such a facility so far would be given new connections in a week.
To facilitate the citizens, the KW&SB has increased the number of bank branches receiving application forms for new connections and now people could also obtain the application forms from all the branches of Bolan bank, Habib bank Sindh Secretariat branch and also from the office of accounts officer (revenue), located at the KW&SB head office behind Civic Centre, Karachi.
Brig. Asif Ghazali said that the price of application form has been fixed at Rs30 and that of commercial Rs100, therefore no excessive payment be made. However, the application forms for commercial connections will require revenue stamps of Rs100 to be pasted over it that could be obtained from treasury office near the City Courts.
He directed the officials concerned to expedite the process and as they receive any application, the connection should be given in a week. He has also convened a meeting on Friday to review the progress.
