HYDERABAD, Nov 19: The newly-elected Nazim of the Hyderabad taluka (rural), Ghulam Ali Gopang, belonging to the Awam Dost Panel, was administered the oath of his office here on Wednesday.

The returning officer and additional sessions judge, Faiz Mohammad Memon, administered the oath.

Pir Amjad Hussain Shah Jilani, who had vacated the post of the taluka Nazim following his election as an MPA, and a large number of ADP Nazims and councillors attended the ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Gopang said he would make efforts to resolve problems of his constituents.

The defeated candidate, Iqbal Pahore, has challenged the election of Mr Gopang through a constitutional petition in the Sindh High Court.

Demo: The journalists of Hyderabad held a protest demonstration for the second consecutive day on Wednesday against the arrest of a senior journalist, Anwar Siyal, and his son, Zulfiqar Ali Siyal, by the Bhittai Nagar police.

They demanded the immediate removal of the SHO, Bhitai Nagar police station, and the cancellation of the FIR.
