ISLAMABAD, Nov 18: The Federal government on Tuesday notified the appointment of Tariq Hameed as Water and Power Authority (Wapda) chairman.

The newly-appointed chairman called on Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali at the Prime Minister’s Secretariat in the evening and exchanged views with him on matters pertaining to his department.

The prime minister, while congratulating Mr Hameed directed him to further improve the performance of the Authority and take measures to reduce the line losses. He specifically asked him to concentrate on speedy redressal of public complaints. Consumer satisfaction should be the goal of the organization, he observed.

The prime minister asked him to speed up the electrification drive in the remote and rural areas.

Mr Hameed assured the prime minister that he would do his utmost to come up to his expectations.

Later, the Wapda chief also called on Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz.

Tariq Hameed was Punjab finance minister during the military government. He has also served the world Bank. Mr Hameed has vast administrative experience to his credit. He did his graduation with in civil engineering in 1956 form Engineering University of Lahore. He did his MBA in Financial Management from Howard University.
