LAHORE, Nov 18: The Lahore High Court office on Tuesday returned to a lawyer the petition he had refiled against the increase in the pay and allowances of parliamentarians.

It raised the objection afresh that the petition should be accompanied by a notification or an order by the prime minister or the speaker of the National Assembly.

The LHC office had returned to advocate M.D. Tahir the petition he had filed last week with the objection that a notification should be made available with it.

Refiling the petition, Advocate Tahir pleaded that a notification was not necessary as clippings of newspapers regarding the news items were sufficient material for the purpose of adjudication. If newspaper reports were not contradicted or statements widely publicized in the press, it was accepted for the purpose of a writ petition.

A decision to increase the MPs pay and allowances was taken at a high-level meeting, presided over by Prime Minister Zafarullah Jamali, at Islamabad and he could not find the notification.
