PESHAWAR, Nov 18: The provincial archaeology and museums directorate has found 12 graves of the Aryan period with skeletons and other items during the first excavation at Parwak in Chitral district.

A press release issued on Tuesday said nine trenches were excavated, of which seven represented the Gandhara civilization and two were of later period.

The directorate and the Boston University of the United States started the survey in the area in June.

Dr Ihsan Ali led the team that conducted the excavation.

The press release said three types of burials — inhumation, cremation end exposed burial — were found.

The goods found included pots, weapons, tools, jewellery and stamps. Artefacts like 10 copper and iron bangles, six gold and copper earrings, a stone and four copper rings were found.

The objects were handed over to the Chitral Museum.
