TOBA TEK SINGH, Nov 17: A group of land grabbers who has the backing of an influential person of the area finally grabbed the land allotted to the Government Islamia Secondary School 10 years ago.
The provincial government had allotted a piece of land to the school which had about 2,000 students. But a councillor and his accomplices occupied the land. When a former headmaster moved the court against the land grabbers, he was transferred on the pursuance of “influentials”.
They not only forced the new headmaster to stop pursuing the case, but also invited MNA Mian Farhan Latif for the inauguration of gas supply to the Ghaffari Colony illegally built on the occupied land. He also announced Rs200,000 for the provision of other facilities for the colony.
Public circles have urged the provincial government to vacate the land and hand over its possession to the school.
