President, PM condole Jafri’s death

ISLAMABAD, Nov 17: President Gen Pervez Musharraf has expressed sorrow over the sad demise of a renowned journalist, A.B.S. Jafri, who breathed his last in Karachi on Monday after a protracted illness.

In a message to the bereaved family, the president said: “In him the nation has lost a veteran journalist, an objective analyst, a great intellectual and a true patriot who worked hard for the promotion of healthy journalism in Pakistan.”

The late Jafri was a champion of the freedom of press and served in leading newspapers of the country and abroad, he added.

May Allah rest the departed soul in peace and grant the family courage and forbearance to bear this loss, the president prayed.

JAMALI: Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali, expressing his heartfelt condolences over the sad demise of the renowned journalist, said in a condolence message to his family that he devoted “whole of his professional life for the promotion of healthy journalism and freedom of the press,” adds our staff reporter.

Paying rich tributes to the late journalist for his valuable contributions towards the field of journalism, he said his death had caused a great loss to the nation, in general, and journalistic community, in particular.”

The prime minister prayed that “may Allah rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant the bereaved family courage to bear this irreparable loss.”

RASHID: Condoling the death of the veteran journalist, the Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Sheikh Rashid Ahmad, said: “I am shocked to hear the sad demise of A.B.S. Jafri. The late Jafri was a well-reputed and widely respected journalist who always worked hard for the promotion of journalism in the country,” adds APP.
