KARACHI: Sindh plans to build water reservoirs

KARACHI, Nov 17: In view of persistent drought conditions in certain parts of the province, the Sindh government plans to build reservoirs at different places in remote areas to store water and cater to the needs of the poor people.

For construction of water reservoirs, the provincial government would consult experts and seek reports from the planning and development department, the irrigation department, WAPDA and other concerned departments to prepare a feasibility report.

The decision was taken here Monday at a meeting chaired by Waseem Akhtar, Advisor to the chief minister on local government and special development.

The meeting was informed that in Balochistan, small reservoirs have been built to meet the water shortage.

A representative from Khairpur apprised the meeting of acute shortage of water in the district and said certain proposals have already been submitted to the government that should also be considered.—PPI
