KARACHI, Nov 17: Filthy water gushing out from a 48-inch dia sunken sewerage line in North Nazimabad’s Block L near Taimuria Masjid has inundated roads and streets in Mujahid Colony.

Besides, sewage has been overflowing on a busy road near Dr Ziauddin Hospital’s roundabout.

Ankle-deep sewage is seen on different streets of Mujahid Colony for the last couple of days.

It has not only created a stinking environment in the vicinity but has also become a source of inconvenience for motorcyclists and pedestrians.

Residents of Mujahid Colony said although filthy water coming out from the sunken sewerage line often remains stranded on a number of streets, the KWSB officials have not yet taken measures to repair the sewerage line.

Meanwhile, the city Nazim, Naimatullah Khan, who visited affected areas on Monday, directed the KWSB officials to repair the sunken sewerage line at the earliest.

SHORTAGE: Complaints of persisting water shortage continue to pour in newspaper offices from different parts of the city.

Most of such complaints have been received from the residents of Clifton’s Block 2, Mehmoodabad, Akhtar Colony, Kharadar, Mithadar, different parts of Orangi Town’s Union Council No 9, Burnes Road, Haqqani Chowk and Bahadurabad No 3.

Residents of the affected localities said in the absence of piped water, they have no choice but to either buy private tankers at exorbitant rates or consume sub-soil unhygienic water at the cost of their health.

Orangi Town’s UC-9 Nazim, Shehnaz Parveen, said various localities of the UC have been getting the supply with a very low pressure, mainly owing to leakages in a number of pipelines passing through her UC.

“We have repeatedly informed the KWSB chief engineer (water distribution) and Xen about such leaking pipelines but no measures have been taken to plug the leakages.

She has urged the KWSB MD to ask the officials to undertake repair work at the earliest.

According to her, the hard-areas include Ali Nagar, Ghausia Baloch Colony, Benazir Colony, Nishan-i-Haider Chowk, Islam Nagar, Aziz Nagar, Urdu Chowk and their adjoining areas.
