KARACHI: Rulers asked not to trample Constitution

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Nov 17: The secretary-general of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, has warned the rulers to desist from trampling the constitution, because if it is forsaken, the situation like that of former East Pakistan would be created.

“We will not allow any one to cause harm to Pakistan and spilt it once again”, he added.

The Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam chief, who returned here from Saudi Arabia after performing Umra to attend the supreme council session of the MMA, was speaking at an Iftar hosted by his party leader Mustafeezuddin at Delhi Mercantile Society.

Referring to the latest round of crackdown against religious parties, Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman said: “We consider it a an attempt to crush the on-going protest of the opposition parties against the LFO.”

He made it clear that the MMA would not accept the LFO as part of the constitution until the parliament endorses it because the LFO was part of the constitution.

The MMA chief said there was no constitutional or legal ground in the government stand on LFO. The central council of the MMA will deliberate on the situation prevailing in the country, including the on-going protest of the opposition parties on LFO and other issues facing the country.

He said that the MMA had played an important role in creating a sectarian harmony and the MMA had mustered support from people of all schools of thought but now once again the rulers were attempting to create a sectarian rift.

Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman that we could not be overawed by the propaganda tactics by the West and reject it and follow only Quran.

He regretted that the rulers had assumed the responsibility to declare any organisation as extremist and sectarian whenever it suited them.

Although it were the agencies which promoted Jehadi organizations. Likewise, the very agencies had been on the back of sectarian, ethnic and nationalist organisations, but now when the US wants to take a revenge from them, the government has come into action to give an impression that it was maintaining a check on sectarian and terrorist organisations.

He said that the country which was created in the name of Islam was ignoring the tenets of Islam, and American suggestions were being given preference which were meant to cause harm to Muslims.

Earlier, MMA Karachi chief Hafiz Muhammad Taqi, Qari Muhammad Usman and Mustafeezuddin also spoke.
