Protests greet Rumsfeld in South Korea
SEOUL, Nov 16: US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld was greeted with an anti-US protest on Sunday as he arrived here for security consultations between the two allies.
About 30 activists shouted slogans denouncing the US defence secretary in a confrontation with riot police at the gate of a military air base in southern Seoul after Mr Rumsfeld’s plane landed from Tokyo. The protestors chanted “No Rumsfeld” and demanded an end to what they called US pressure on South Korea to send troops to Iraq.
Mr Rumsfeld is to meet President Roh Moo-Hyun Monday after attending an annual security conference that will focus on Iraq, North Korea, and plans to realign US forces in South Korea.—APP
