KARACHI, Nov 16: United Sports moved ahead in the Aga Khan Gymkhana Ramazan festival league, shutting out Godhra Sports by eight wickets at the Aga Khan Gymkhana ground on Sunday.

Winning the toss and electing to bat, Godhra Sports were skittled out for 69 runs. Misba Khan three for five, Sheryar Farukh three for 34 and Shahab Akhtar two for 20, shared the wickets.

United Sports in reply cruised to victory hitting up 73 runs for the loss of two wickets in only 11.2 overs. Shahid Aslam was unbeaten with 25 runs when victory came. Earlier, Aamir Ayaz Khan scored 20.

In the afternoon’s fixture, Baqai Dolphins booked a berth for themselves in quarter-finals, beating Shaheen Gymkhana by a narrow margin of three wickets.

Shaheen having first use of the wicket after winning the toss, scored 159 runs for the loss of six wickets with sound knocks from the blades of Imran Omer (69), Nadeem Tariq (33) and Salman Khan 25 not out, after being in a strong position at 107 for one wicket at one stage of the game. Tariq Rasheed picked up two wickets for 33 runs for the fielding side.

Baqai Dolphins needing 160 runs to win, lost their first two wickets with 32 runs on the board.

However, Iqbal Sheikh (64) and Imranullah (37), steadied the innings as Dolphins reached the winning target losing seven wickets in the process.

Spinners Khawar Aziz two for 28 and Shoukat Rajput two for 34, were among the wickets for the losing side.
